Running on Long Island, New York
The first thing I tell all beginning runners is make sure you get the right running shoes for you. To do that, you go to your local running store and be properly fitted. I’m not talking about a mall store. You need someone who knows running. From west to east:
Lynbrook Runner's Stop - 20 Atlantic Avenue, Lynbrook, NY 11563; 516 568 7333
Runners Edge 242 Main St; Farmingdale, NY; Toll Free 877-RUN-EASY (877-786-3279)
Super Runners Shop 355 New York Ave; Huntington; 631-549-3006
Schwabs 2nd Wind Three Village Plz; Setucket; 631-751-5534
Sayville Running Company - 55 Main Street; West Sayville, New York; Tel 631 589-5700; Fax 631 589-5701
Gubbins Perfect Fit 54 Park Place, East Hampton, 631-324-3239
The second thing I tell runners is to join two running clubs. First, your local club and then the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) The biggest running club on Long Island, the GLIRC and it’s sister LIT&F oversee most of what happens in running on Long Island.
